Simon Hansen’s self-taught visual effects skills strategically armed him and empowered him as a filmmaker. These skills plus the core technology Simon developed with US based companies, placed him in the unique position of implementing, for the first time anywhere in the world, new breakthrough film technology which was used on his first feature film Spoon which he co-wrote, co-directed and co-produced with Sharlto Copley. The camera technology known as the Si-2K was subsequently used by Danny Boyle on Slumdog Millionaire which received an Oscar nomination for cinematography. The Si-2K was also used to film PUMZI (2009).
Simon is an innovator and ideas driven artist with a clear vision of what he wants to achieve with his life as a filmmaker. He continues to innovate in all sectors of the film industry for one reason, so he can make the films he wants to make and not be constricted. As Producer, Creative Consultant and VFX architect on Pumzi the film is a visual testament to Simonââ¬â¢s creativity, passion and drive.
After knowing Amira Quinlan and Simon Hansen for many years on a personal level she was asked by Simon to audition for the lead female role in Spoon (Inspired Minority Pictures), the character of which was based on her and consequently named “Hannah”. Although she was not cast, her film debut was working as the Line Producerââ¬â¢s assistant on the same film.
Hannah produced alongside Simon Hansen one of the “Interview Units” for the feature film District 9 (2009) Produced by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings, King Kong) and directed by Neill Blomkamp. Hannah is currently the Post Production producer of the feature film Spoon (2009), directed and written by Simon Hansen. This film project is due for release in late 2009 and has attracted funding and distribution by the NFVF, VideoVision Entertainment and Atomic Visual Effects.
Hannah and Simon are the producers of Pumzi (2009). Thanks to her thrifty, bargain hunting prowess coupled with overwhelming resilience and patience, PUMZI is a rare short film spectacular of high production value and one of the few Sci-Fi films out of Africa.
Amira Karam Quinlan
Amira is a phenominal producer who get’s the impossible done. A key component of the success of Simon Hansen and Sharlto Copleys 14 year partnership. Her underlying dedication, meticulous and persistent attempts at involving people, raising money and getting the job done when no one else could was the secret ingredient to the creation of Spoon and Pumzi (2009).
Despite her aptitude for producing Amira could not be more passionate about it than she is about animals. She wrangles on feature films and is really in her element when she is up to he knees in mud and manure and taming wild beasts (no wonder she makes a good producer). When you meet her it’s hard to believe this punchy stylish glamour girl can carry so much weight.
